Inspired by the likes of The Waterboys' Fisherman's Blues, Wilco's Mermaid Avenue Sessions, and Van Morrison’s Tupelo Honey, THE HEALERS’ debut effort is crafted entirely out of back-porch strings and ear worm songs - a unique marriage of folk, country, celtic and even bluegrass influences.

Lead by singer-songwriter Peter Hutchison (Empire of Light, Subduing Mara), the album features a veritable all-star lineup of Brooklyn musicians, including Rod Hohl (The Silos, Yarn, Empire of Light), Konrad Meissner (Syd Straw, Brandi Carlile, Freedy Johnston), Dennis Lichtman (Jim Kweskin Band, Ghost Train Orchestra, Pokey LaFarge), Bobby Hawk (Taylor Swift, Bleachers, Post Malone) & Rob Jost (Björk, Imogen Heap, Jesse Harris). 

Produced & arranged by the multi-talented Rod Hohl , the project was recorded entirely live in the studio (Grand Street Recordings, Brooklyn) - the band’s fresh Americana take on the Kiss classic “Detroit Rock City” having already stirred the airways across North America earlier this year.

Produced by Andris Balins (Lana Del Rey, Sean Lennon’s The Ghost of the Saber Tooth Tiger and The Moonlandingz, Fat White Family) and band member Keith Robinson, “Let There Be Light” evokes equal parts rural Upstate New York and urban old-school Brooklyn – between which the recording was split.  The end result is a distillation oftimeless, original New Traditionalist Americana Rock.

A 3-song extended summer single - produced by band member Keith Robinson - “Some Days (The Bourbon Song)” is a pandemic-inspired trio of songs that speak to a strange and trying year filled with reflection, loss and uncertainty.

2 plus decades into a prolific songwriting career, “Empire Of Light” is Peter Hutchison’s first true solo effort. A collaboration with producer/musician extraordinaire Rod Hohl (Yarn ,The Silos, Carly Simon & Art Garfunkel), EOL defies simple categorization, showcasing traditional Americana song craft within horn & string soundscapes.

Personnel includes Peter Levin (Blind Boys of Alabama, Greg Allman Band); Jeremy Wall (Spyro Gyra); Kenny Rampton (Mingus Big Band, Ray Charles, Dr. John); Michael Gilbert Ronstadt (David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt); Konrad Meissner (The Silos, Graham Parker, Syd Straw); and Robert Bonhomme (Yarn).

ME & MR. RAY

Following the late 90s implosion of our respective bands Subduing Mara & Miracle Legion, me & Mr. Ray Neal decamped to the farmhouse studio of long-time friend/producer Brad Morrison (Phish, Miracle Legion, the Figgs), unfettered by the weight of expectations. 

There, in the black dirt onion fields of Upstate NY, we collaborated on series of sessions that included talented friends Scott McDonald, Maya Rossi, Matthew Pelletier & Paul Reider - released under the sobriquet "Lucas Shine".

Although critically revered (a Village Voice Music Critics Year's Best/Top 10 Album), and featured in film & TV (most notably Barry Levinson’s "Bandits", starring Bruce Willis & Cate Blanchett), the releases were never available beyond the limited pressings of their indie label. 

Described as “one of those rare side projects that stands up to the parent bands” (Pop Culture Press), and “Unfailingly memorable mini-masterpieces… astonishing it can be so underappreciated” (High Bias) – here, at long-last, are those very sessions from 1998-2000, re-mastered and released as originally intended.

LUCAS SHINE: EP

The sole release from the short-lived NYC Americana supergroup assembled by Peter Hutchison (Subduing Mara), consisting of Stephen Clair, Rod Hohl  (Yarn, The Silos, Tandy), Keith Christopher  (Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Yayhoos, Georgia Satellites) & Ian Stynes  (The Glaciers, Mendoza Line).  

With supporting performances by Bob Hoffnar  (Hem, Ryan Adams, The Band) & Kara Suzanne.

A constant presence on college radio and the CMJ charts in the 90’s, Subduing Mara built a name for themselves through their electrifying live shows – earning them critical praise as “The best band you’ve never heard of”.

Music critics have credited the band as an influential voice in the Alt Country/Roots Rock revival – “Enough to justify belief in Rock'n'Roll" – echoing the work of contemporaries Uncle Tupelo (Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy & Sun Volt’s Jay Farrar) and Ryan Adam’s Whiskeytown.
